Hello everyone, just a quick note on what I have been up to lately.
2023 was a busy year, all told I quilted just over 100 quilts for my customers. This does not include the charity quilts I do for the Cherokee Blossum Quilt Guild in their work to support the “Quilts of Valor” program. A brand-new Veterans Home just opened in Cleveland. It’s a beautiful facility with the capacity to house 108 Veterans. The Cherokee Blossum Quilt Guild has committed to providing a Quilt of Valor for each resident. We have been making and stock pilling quilts for the home’s opening for the past three years. I also do charity quilting for Isaiah 117 House. Isaiah 117 House is a facility that provides physical and emotional support for children awaiting placement in loving homes. Together these charities accounted for another two dozen quilts, so you can see that I have been quite busy.
When quilting for charity, I usually select an all-over pattern which moves through my machine in just a few hours. When quilting for Customers, I like to do more intricate work. This always includes different border patterns and panel quilting that utilizes a mix of pattern blocks. This can also include hand-guided as well as ruler-guided quilting. In addition, the Innova software that my machine runs on can import designs from AutoCAD and my husband has drawn several blocks that I have incorporated into my quilting. In fact, a pineapple he designed is featured on a quilt I have entered in the 2024 Stitches in Time quilt show at the Museum and Cultural Center at 5ive Points in Cleveland this coming April 10 to 13.
Tee shirt quilts have become quite popular recently, last year completing four. These usually take about 3 weeks and make for good projects to take with on vacation. Other news, in October I replaced my 26-inch Innova Classic machine with a 28-inch M Series. I will say this has not been a pain-free replacement as I have had several problems with the software that drives the machine as well as one major mechanical failure which had me idle for 3 days. Innova has been working closely with me and hopefully they will have all the problems solved in the next few weeks.
As said earlier, I will be at the Stitches in Time quilt show in Cleveland from April 10 to 13 and at the Mountain Quiltfest show in Pigeon Forge from June 3 to 6. I would love to talk to you about your projects and possibly doing work for you, so look me up if you can attend one of these shows.
